Beijng World Park
In "The World," Jia presents a snapshot of life in Beijing through the lens of migrant workers in an amusement park called "The World.," which is based on Beijing World Park. The film explores into the personal struggles of the characters against rapid societal transformation.
Commenting on the film, scholar Yao said, "Jia intends to raise good questions about Chinese cosmopolitanism, the negative impact of the consumer spectacle…", problematizing the future-forward park, that absorbs the infrastructural and technological spectacles worldwide (Yao 157).
For more context, Beijing World Park models itself after the naturalistic layout of the globe, famous for its wide range of replicas of global landmarks, to the likes of Pisa Tower, Eiffel Tower, Taj Mahal among others…
